means that we can know a priori that genomic profiles might not, on their own, be accurate diagnostic classifiers. For this reason, genomic profiles should judged in the first instance on the basis of their analytic validity [10] as predictors of genetic rather than absolute risk. Of course, in the long term genomic profiles can be combined with environmental risk factors to predict absolute risk in the context of clinical utility. Genomic profiles should improve upon family history which has long been used as a crude estimate of genetic risk (see Text S1).
