One of the major drawbacks of the original EMD algorithm is that the IMFs are not strictly orthogonal to each other [27], which can cause the energy leakage while decomposing. Therefore, it is necessary to perform the orthogonal processing for the IMFs from EMD in order to obtain the completely orthogonal IMFs [38].
