Text

Suicidal behaviors were assessed using Version 3.0 of the WMH Composite International Diagnostic Interview (CIDI).36 The CIDI contains a module that assesses lifetime occurrence, age of onset, and recency of suicide ideation (“Have you ever seriously thought about committing suicide?”), plans (“Have you ever made a plan for committing suicide?”), and attempts (“Have you ever attempted suicide?”). Respondents who reported any of these experiences in the past 12 months are the focus of the current report. Based on evidence that reports of such experiences are higher in self-administered than interviewer-administered surveys,37 responses to these questions were obtained in a self-administered booklet.
