The study consisted of three sessions. The first study session consisted of a screening interview with the participant in order to obtain a detailed medical history. Subsequently, qualified participants returned for two more sessions of intravenous infusion of either (1) 95% ethanol diluted to 6% v/v ethanol solution or (2) Lactated Ringer's placebo solution. Participants were compensated upon completion of each session of the study. The study protocol was approved by the Howard University Institutional Review Board and General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) Advisory Board.
