workers, and other professionals who work with children should be especially attuned to the very young ages at which serious trauma exposure may occur in families affected by AUD. Among families where one or both primary caregivers is known to have an alcohol problem, early intervention to assist the affected person as well as assessment for trauma exposure and posttraumatic stress symptoms or PTSD among his/her children is indicated. Screening Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT), tailored to practice settings, may be one way to effectively address parent AUD and forestall or mitigate the effects of offspring trauma in families.
