Despite substantial power, a meta-analysis of 37 genome-wide linkage studies with data on >31,000 individuals from 10,000 families of European origin could not locate a single obesity or BMI locus with convincing evidence [35]. This meta-analysis indicates that genome-wide linkage analysis might not be an effective approach for identifying genetic variants for common obesity.
