Relevant to substance abuse, they showed that the ability to delay gratification as a toddler, predicted less substance abuse (e.g., cocaine) later in life 126. In our current work, we are beginning to use a combination of these tasks to identify the neural substrates of this ability to further understand potential risk factors for substance abuse.
