These and other studies also have indicated that ethanol increases transcription of NF-κB target genes, including the genes encoding the following: MCP-1;Certain proinflammatory cytokines, such as TNFα, IL-1β, and IL-6;Certain proinflammatory oxidases, such as iNOS (Zou and Crews 2010), COX-2 (Knapp and Crews 1999), and NOX (Qin et al. 2008); andCertain proteases, such as TNF–converting enzyme (TACE) and tissue plasminogen activator (Zou and Crews 2010).
