In our recent work [1], we proposed two methods to extract the scalp reference signal from clinical multichannel iEEG recordings based on independent component analysis [38], [39] and stated why the obtained signal is a “good” estimation of the real reference signal. The corrected EEG, or true reference-free EEG, can now be obtained by removing the reference signal.
