The intra-and interhemispheric coherence analyses were conducted in two steps because there were significant or tendency of group differences in the demographic (age, education, and IQ) and psychological (depression, anxiety, and impulsivity) variables (Table 1). First, coherence was analyzed while controlling for the effects of the demographic variables but without controlling for the effects of the psychological variables. Second, coherence was analyzed while controlling for the effects of the demographic and psychological variables to determine the pure effects of addiction (with controls for the psychological variables).
