Although we correctly located most of the simulated signals for Q1, we also found a number of false-positive signals (Table 1). Two of these (the regions on chromosomes 7 and 9) attained p-values of approximately 10−4, which normally would not be considered strong evidence of linkage. The other two signals (on chromosomes 8 and 17), however, would be considered persuasive evidence of linkage if the families were independent.
