Text

Diagnoses for the biological parents of the offspring (i.e. the proband and his spouse) were assessed for DSM-III-R alcohol abuse and dependence from an interview similar to the SSAGA (American Psychiatric Association, 1987). FH was coded as a dichotomous variable where 23% of the offspring had at least one parent meeting criteria for an alcohol use disorder as determined from personal interviews with parents as part of the SDPS protocol.
