The null hypothesis in the MR-GSE test is that the set of predicted target mRNAs are randomly chosen from the full set (i.e. all mRNAs profiled), p-values were calculated as for the Wilcoxon two-sample rank test [36]. The MR-GSE test was applied using functionality provided by the limma-package for R. P-values were adjusted for multiple testing by FDR correction [58] across the 248 performed enrichment tests.
