The BrdU labeling protocol was performed as previously described33,19. The number of proliferating progenitor cells in the subependyma of the lateral ventricle was determined following short-term (2h), or long-term (30d) retention. Mice were injected intraperitoneally with a single dose of BrdU (50 μg/g body weight) every 3h for five injections and were sacrificed either 1h or 30d after the final injection.
