The independent and cross-sectional 2005–2013 NSDUHs use similar designs to allow the analysis of the same variables from the pooled sample. The large sample of NSDUH also permits analysis to produce reliable CUD estimates for racial/ethnic groups with a smaller population size in the United States and to distinguish between cannabis abuse and dependence to estimate the level of CUD for racial/ethnic groups.
