of 26 randomly referred subjects with ASP manifested a normal Gaussian distribution as opposed to one demonstrating an asymmetrical distribution as might be expected if the sample simply constituted subjects non-randomly selected from the high functioning end of the ASD population curve. At this point, current study results are consistent with ASP forming one end of the ASD population. This is similar to the demonstration by Shaywitz et al. that reading disability represents the ‘low end tail’ of the reading ability curve and not a distinctly separate population [66].
