Text

The Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) is a 12-item self-report inventory assessing the adequacy of the respondent’s perceived social support. It includes three subscales, inquiring about support from family, friends, and a significant other (Zimet, Dahlem, Ziment, and Farley, 1988). The items also combine to form an overall scale, with low scores indicating strong social support. Each item is rated on a 7-point Likert scale, ranging from very strongly agree (1) to very strongly disagree (7).
