Fresh-frozen striatal and amygdala specimens were obtained from normal adult Caucasian subjects without head trauma from our brain bank collection [29] (collected at the Department of Forensic Medicine at Semmelweis University, Hungary). The specimens were collected under the guidelines approved by the local Human Ethical Committee within 24 hrs after death. The demographic characteristics of total subjects (N = 16) were: 36.8±3.0 years old; 13 males/3 females, 6.72±0.06 brain pH; postmortem interval 20.9±1.7 hrs; cause of death being cardiac failure (N = 12), viral infection (N = 2), pulmonary embolus (N = 1), electric shock (N = 1). Striatal samples were only available for 14 of the specimens.
