Interactions of the DTS dummy variable with the 17 smoking-related predictors in predicting the four outcomes are significant for only 1 of the 68 coefficients, which is no more than we would expect by chance. Consistent with this result, replication of these analyses exclusively in the subsample of respondents who participated in the baseline Tobacco Supplement found the same results as in Table 2. (Detailed results available on request) These findings argue against the possibility that retrospective recall bias in the subsample of respondents who did not participate in the baseline Tobacco supplement accounts for the findings in Table 2. Based on these findings, we retained respondents who did not participate in the Tobacco Supplement in subsequent analyses.
