Our analytic approach – multinomial logistic regression – avoids this pitfall, as we outline under the section ‘Statistical analysis’. The approach takes into account the relative strength of the role of predispositions on trauma exposure. It models the joint distribution of exposure and PTSD, instead of the marginal distribution of PTSD within certain exposure groups.
