Text

A recent population-based GWAS of AUDIT in 20,328 research participants from the genetics company 23andMe, Inc., identified a locus near the gene ADH1C (rs141973904; p = 4.4 × 10−7)(10) nominally associated with AUDIT total score. AUDIT scores among 23andMe research participants were low and predominantly driven by alcohol consumption (AUDIT-C). The genetic correlation between AUDIT total score from 23andMe and alcohol consumption was much stronger (rg = 0.89, p = 9.01 × 10−10) than the genetic correlation between AUDIT total score and alcohol dependence (rg = 0.08; p = 0.65)(13).
