Text

the mechanistic link between GABA and DISC1 signaling, we examined AKT, a DISC1 target, and subsequent mTOR activation in newborn neurons (Kang et al., 2011; Kim et al., 2009). Interestingly, DISC1 KD-induced increases of pAKT and pS6 levels were significantly attenuated by shRNA-NK1 or shRNA-γ2 expression (Figures 1E to 1F). Together, these results suggest a specific requirement of depolarizing GABA signaling in DISC1-dependent regulation of AKT/mTOR signaling and dendritic growth during adult neurogenesis.
