the major allele (T) is the risk allele is at odds with the two meta-analyses cited above; however, the relative frequencies of the major and minor alleles in our study were not significantly different in the overall sample or the results after the sample was divided into individual ancestry type. Potential causes for this discrepancy may be the much larger size of the two meta-analyses versus the sample used in the current study, though our finding are consistent with other samples in the COGA study. Because alcohol-use disorders are complex (Morozova, Goldman, Mackay, & Anholt, 2012), they may be influenced by a combination of major allele effects of some genes and minor allele effects from other genes.
