Chunk #18 — Results — Decreased expression of the δ, ε, and ρ2 but increased expression of the γ1 GABA-A subunit mRNAs in the caudate nucleus of alcoholics

Source
GABA-A and NMDA receptor subunit mRNA expression is altered in the caudate but not the putamen of the postmortem brains of alcoholics.
Embedded
yes

Text

The caudate levels of mRNAs encoding the δ, ϵ, and ρ2 subunits were significantly decreased whereas that of the γ1 subunit was increased in the alcoholics as compared to controls (Figure 4, Table 1). The mRNA levels for the remaining subunits were not altered between the two groups (Figure 4). The significance between the two groups was not affected by age, brain pH, PMI, smoking history, or RQI. No individual in either group consistently expressed genes at higher level than the other individuals in the same group.
