Strict parenting was determined through participants response to the items “In your opinion, when you were 6 to 13, was your mother/mother figure more strict than most mothers?” and “ In your opinion, when you were 6 to 13, was your father/father figure more strict than most fathers?”. Those who endorsed either of these items were classified as having experienced strict parenting.
