Text

There is a growing body of clinical interventions that appear closely tied to the concept of urgency. For example, to the degree that individuals with BPD, or those engaging in addictive behaviors, are characterized by rash action based on intense emotions, an appropriate intervention may be to teach them to tolerate their extreme emotional states without immediate action, so as to avoid ill-chosen behaviors. This focus is most notably found in Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Borderline Personality Disorder (DBT; see Linehan, 1993).
