The heritability (H) can be estimated by the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) approach. For independent random samples drawn from natural populations, H is the coefficient of determination, or R2. In general, the ANOVA F-test can be used as the base of power calculations. However, this approach requires the non-centrality parameter λ of the F-distribution, which is defined as:
