SCUBE1 has not been extensively studied. While it is expressed in the developing brain and nervous system (46, 47), functional studies to date have focused mostly on its potential role in platelet activation and adhesion (48, 49). A study in mice has shown downregulated SCUBE1 expression in response to inflammatory stimuli (47), but this gene has not yet been implicated in disorders of the brain or nervous system. Interestingly, increased levels of pro-inflammatory markers have been reported in several studies of children and adolescents with OCD (50–53).
