Chronic heroin use disrupts multiple physiological systems, contributing to addiction and relapse. Vulnerability to develop heroin addiction is due to drug-induced and environmental factors, as well as genetic factors (Kreek et al, 2005). Among the non-genetic factors may be integrated epigenetic factors including DNA methylation.
