probability of very early tobacco initiation (0.87) and very early alcohol initiation (0.59), but were likely to delay sexual initiation (0.54), with a corresponding low probability of causing pregnancy or contracting a STD (0.06–0.01, respectively). Urban and rural European American boys were more likely to be in this class (0.46 and 0.48, respectively) than urban African American boys (0.13). We labeled this class “preadolescent substance users”. Boys in risk class 4 (21 % of the sample) were characterized by low probabilities on each risky behavior, and were labeled “low risk.”
