deviation of all SNPs on chromosome 15 and 8 binned by allele frequency such that the average iHS value for each bin after standardization was identical. We excluded SNPs with a minor allele frequency less than 5% because low frequency SNPs are difficult to normalize accurately. After removing these SNPs, extracting just the desired gene regions, and removing those with MAF of <0.05, there were ~150–350 SNPs per region, depending on the population. Standardization was done separately for each population using population specific averages and standard deviations. iHS values were then superimposed onto graphs of the regions.
