Text

The findings remained essentially unchanged after further adjustment for comorbid diseases (hypertension, cardiovascular disease, or cancer), other socio-economic variables (education, spouse's education, retirement), or four categories of alcohol intake (<5g/day, 5 to <15g/day, 15 to <30g/day, ≥30g/day) (data not shown). In addition, no significant interactions were found between ever smoking status (yes/no) and alcohol use (yes/no) (all Pinteraction ≥0.18), and reported regular use of antidepressants or minor tranquilizers (yes/no) (all Pinteraction≥0.29).
