Table 1 displays results from Chi-square tests comparing demographics, help-seeking, and severity between abstainers and non-abstainers. Every variable except education significantly differed (P < 0.05) between abstainers and non-abstainers: compared with abstainers, non-abstainers were significantly more likely to be female, younger, Hispanic, non-White, unemployed, without formal treatment, without AA exposure, without a lifetime DSM-IV dependence diagnosis, and/or with fewer DSM-IV lifetime dependence symptoms.
