Heterochronicity in cortical structural (Giedd et al. 2015; Raznahan et al. 2012; Shaw et al. 2008) and functional maturation (Fjell et al. 2012; Muller-Oehring et al. 2017; Stiles and Jemigan 2010) marked the continuation of neurodevelopment throughout adolescence and young adulthood and, as our analysis showed, includes cortical myelin and its functional ramifications in temporal, spatial, and density growth patterns.
