In one human genetic study, a T-to-C change at genomic position 137346 (−93A/G) in the 5 untranslated region of the fyn gene is associated with increased alcohol consumption, a higher number of drinks consumed, and a greater number of self-reported alcohol withdrawal symptoms as defined by DSM-IV criteria compared with control subjects.277 The functional consequences of this polymorphism are not known, but it is likely to affect expression of Fyn.
