Using alcohol to cope with stress (COPE) related closely to ALC PROBS in both Table 2 and Figure 3, indicating this characteristic should be included in most efforts to prevent alcohol-related problems. This is especially important for impulsivity, because without a direct path to ALC PROBS and no direct path from EXPECT to ALC PROBS, much of the relationship between impulsivity and ALC PROBS operated either directly through COPE or through a possible EXPECT to COPE pathway.
