A third group, ALDH2*2 homozygotes, was not targeted for this follow-up study due the low frequency of the ALDH2*2/*2 genotype and very low alcohol consumption rates in this group. Genotyping for COMT occurred following the IAT study using participants’ banked samples. For the current analyses COMT genotype was classified according to presence of the minor allele (A, coding for Met). This scheme resulted in two groups: Val/Val (n = 42) versus Val/Met or Met/Met (n = 26).
