and Gln272 with Val350: the correlation between these SNPs is complete (r2 = 1.0) in 24 of the 26 populations in the 1000 genomes database, and nearly so in the other 2 (r2 = 0.97 in ITU, 0.93 in YRI). Thus measuring either SNP gives essentially the same information. Many other SNPs are highly correlated with rs698/rs1693482. In both Asians (e.g. CHB) and European-Americans (e.g. CEU) more than 100 SNPs with r2>0.90 span a 38 kb region that also covers much of ADH1B.
