Similar to increasing attention to cardiovascular 23 and other physical conditions, 24 sex differences in the expression of mental disorders have been widely studied. Differential expression could be attributable to neurobiological factors, such as the fluctuation of reproductive hormones or immune system regulation, greater exposure or sensitivity to environmental stressors or exposures or genetic factors that could play a role in sex specific expression independently or in combination, as discussed below.
