Ethanol is known to disrupt insulin signalling [81–83] and to impair liver regeneration [84]. According to recent data demonstrating a role for PPARβ/δ in the regulation of glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity [85], the protective effects of PPARβ/δ agonist on ethanol-induced liver injury were shown to be dependent on the amelioration of the insulin binding to insulin and IGF-1 receptors and activation of the down-stream signalling pathways [80].
