Text

School adjustment can be defined as the degree to which adolescents "become comfortable, engaged and successful in their school environment" [5]. Previous research shows that compared to other children, children of alcohol abusers exhibit lower academic achievement [6,7]. This vulnerability is also reflected by their elevated risk for conduct problems, attention problems, hyperactivity, impulsiveness, delinquency, and unemployment [3,8-12]. Attention and conduct problems are important parts of school adjustment [13,14]. Dimensions such as satisfaction with school and academic performance would also be appropriate to include when assessing which types of school adjustment that may be impaired in children of alcohol abusers.
