Herein, we have examined the methylation levels of sixteen CpG sites in the OPRM1 promoter region in former severe heroin addicts in methadone maintenance pharmacotherapy and in controls. We know of no other study in humans that has reported a significant association, after correcting for multiple testing, of DNA methylation level at a specific CpG site in any gene with any addiction.
