argued that the discovery of DNA sequence variants relevant to pharmacogenetic issues raises fewer ethical and legal concerns than do genetic analyses that attempt to identify genes associated with a disease. This is because physicians would not test patients for the presence of specific genetic mutations predisposing to a disease, which would be subject to numerous ethical issues. Instead, physicians would test for DNA sequence variants that predispose to certain medical responses (and which may, for example, be related to the person’s metabolism).
