In gluteal adipose tissue, 14 miRNAs were differentially expressed (FDR adjusted p-value<0.05) between case and control groups in the primary study, but none of these replicated in the replication study. We did, however, observe directionally consistent effect estimates for 10 of the 14 miRNAs found to be differentially expressed in the primary study (Figure S4, Table S3). We note that the replication study had a lower proportion of metabolic syndrome cases due to sample availability (30% in comparison to 41% in the primary study).
