Chronic alcohol intake (Moselhy et al., 2001) and BD (Hartley et al., 2004) cause impairments in brain structure and function. Understanding the effects of BD on the brain among college students is important to prevent future development of AUDs (Rangaswamy and Porjesz, 2014), as alcohol consumption during early adulthood, when the frontal lobe is still developing, is more detrimental to the brain than alcohol consumption at later times (Arnett, 2005; Spear, 2013).
