In the Finnish educational system, compulsory education continues through grade nine (age 16). Secondary education is divided into vocational and academic secondary education (high-school), lasting typically two and three years, respectively. Tertiary education is provided by universities and polytechnics. In order to enter tertiary education, high-school is generally required.
