Perceived stigma was not related to gender, age, education level, number of previous treatment episodes, ethnicity, employment status, or whether the person was having problems with the legal system. Those who indicated they were currently taking medication for a physical problem (n = 32) did perceive somewhat higher levels of substance use related stigma [t(232) = 3.0, p < .01].
