Although resilience is not the focal point of this paper, the framework provided herein nevertheless points to several psychosocial dimensions that might facilitate a better understanding of why some sexual minorities develop psychological problems subsequent to stigma-related stress, while others maintain a psychologically healthy profile. For example, the research reviewed above suggests that individuals who have learned to effectively regulate their emotions in response to specific stressors should be buffered against negative mental health outcomes.
