Several studies have observed alterations in theta and alpha activities during the resting state in patients with AUDs (Kaplan et al., 1985; Pollock et al., 1992; Rangaswamy et al., 2003; Ehlers and Phillips, 2007). Furthermore, alpha activity is decreased in patients with AUDs compared with normal controls (Kaplan et al., 1985; Ehlers and Phillips, 2007; Mumtaz et al., 2016). However, reports of theta activity in AUD patients have been inconsistent; some studies have observed increased theta power (Pollock et al., 1992; Rangaswamy et al., 2003), whereas others found decreased theta power, in patients with AUDs (Coutin-Churchman et al., 2006) compared with normal controls.
