exposure to adverse childhood events and the heaviness of alcohol consumption in the sample. Finally, we found support for an interaction effect of rs1229984 with childhood adversity on AUD symptoms exclusively in EA men. Specifically, the A allele’s protective effects against the development of AUD symptoms were substantially reduced in EA men exposed to adverse childhood events. Our findings are partially consistent with the only other known GxE study of rs1229984 and childhood adversity, which was conducted in a largely male sample of Israeli Jews.
